Summer Camp Expectations!

I am so excited about meeting my 8 little ones tomorrow morning.  I look forward to building positive relationships and  seeing progress throughout the next  4 weeks.  I am so thankful for this opportunity to help these children love to learn and to help them to become successful citizens.  It will be exciting to put all the skills I have learned throughout my time at Furman into practice and create experience to use in my future classrooms.  I have high expectations for myself and students and plan to hold myself to the same standards as I do my students. My goals for the next four weeks include...

1. Building positive relationships with my students and parents though meaningful conversations and learning what works best for their learning environment.
2. Creating and teaching intentional lessons that create data to share with parents and celebrate growth.
3. Growing as a teacher through reflection and conversations to gain new ideas to use in my professional career.

  1. Great goals. I don't think we should ever stop growing as teachers.

  5. Mary Chappell, you were amazing today with your little ones! I love the way you and Jaime have set up the classroom. Building positive relationships with students and parents is very important and can truly make a difference in the classroom. I would like for our class to come over and read to your class one day.

    1. We would be delighted for the big kids to come over and read to the little ones. Mary and I have an open door policy in which everyone is welcome to take part and enjoy the journey of learning. I have really enjoyed my conversations with you and Elizabeth about lesson planning, establishing expectations for a positive learning community, and setting learning goals for your students.

  6. Mary,
First of all, I want to congratulate you on your recent job offer to teach special education. How exciting! I know you will be amazing and leave a legacy in all those that are fortunate to be taught be you.
I am truly honored to be your co-teacher. It is such a privilege every day to see you work your magic on the children. I am certainly learning a lot from all our interactions and conversations. I am so excited to see the growth in our children and in ourselves over the next few weeks. I was touched by your goals. I think teachers need to have a passion for teaching others and celebrating the successes in the miracles we witness every day. Also, we need to be self-driven to challenge ourselves, continue learning always, and be reflective. We certainly make a great team, and I am excited for what the future holds this month for us! ;-)

  7. Mary, I enjoyed reading your post! Your goals alone show what a caring and genuine teacher you are. I agree with goal number three- we as teachers are still learners too! It is important to have a willingness to grow and learn along side of our students.

  8. Mary, I do look forward to hearing the success regarding your Praxis tests. Should you eve need SPED advice please get in touch. I was surprised when our seminar professor lectured on the words "engaging the students" as we were just talking about the importance of that with our daily lessons.
